INT. RUNDSTEDT’S ESTATE – STUDY – NIGHT

Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt sits in his study, contemplating recent developments. His face is troubled as he reviews a stack of official reports. As Germany’s grip loosens amidst retreats, an unsettling rumor begins to reach him – whispers of atrocities committed in the concentration camps.

GERD (V.O.) I’ve always focused on military matters, leaving political policies to others. But these whispers…they’ve started to infiltrate even our ranks.

Suddenly, his servant enters, looking worried, and hands him a secret document delivered by an anonymous source – unofficial accounts from the concentration camps.

INT. RUNDSTEDT’S ESTATE – STUDY – LATER THAT NIGHT

Rundstedt is deeply affected by the contents of the document. He feels a chill run down his spine as he reads about the horrifying atrocities committed by his own nation.

GERD (V.O.) Such monstrous acts…concealed by the grip of the regime… This is not the Fatherland I swore to protect.

INT. RUNDSTEDT’S ESTATE – BEDROOM – NIGHT

Rundstedt lays in bed, staring at the ceiling. His wife, LUISE VON RUNDSTEDT, senses his turmoil.

LUISE Gerd, what’s wrong?

GERD Luise…there are rumors…unthinkable ones…and they may not just be rumors.

Shocked by the gravity in his voice, Luise falls silent. Overwhelmed by guilt and regret, Rundstedt turns his face to the wall, silently shedding tears in the dark.

GERD (V.O.) My own ignorance…my blind faith… How could I not have seen?
